Love is the Absolute

from Beach Street by Bill White

/

lyrics

Even if he doesn’t know
What he is talking about
Don’t sully his belief
With the discord of doubt
Each of us holds
Pieces of the truth
None of us is
Close to the Absolute

Chorus: Unless we’re talking about love
Love is the Absolute
Unless we’re talking about love
Love is the Absolute Truth

We are the ice Melting into water
The water Freezing into ice
Without love to keep it together
Everything breaks like a bad piece of merchandise
Put the pieces together
You might get some truth
None of the pieces
alone is the absolute

Repeat chorus

There is no philosophy, religion, school, or state
No body of laws, no predetermined fate
Strong enough to lock away your mind
Every piece of knowledge is part of a bigger design

Spoken: “When Karl Marx said religion was the opium of the people, he wasn’t knocking religion. He was pushing opium, knowing that the poor people couldn’t afford it, he recommended they go to church to get their high. The only thing he had against the church was its claim to be the absolute truth. He didn’t believe an absolute truth was possible, since so many claimed to have it or be it, and each absolute truth cancelled out all the others. His mistake finally was believing the state was the absolute truth.
