Beach Street

1.
Passing stations Past stations never survive No restoration Can keep the old trains alive Life is the losing of each day that is lost There’s no going back to the cradle once you have been to the cross Chorus: Nothing is left of the world into which I was born Not a thread remains of the clothes I have worn My ancestors have passed into ancestral light And it’s the world of tomorrow That I’m passing through tonight Passing stations Erasing each frontier Ive crossed the nation Without shedding a tear Sometimes I miss the places I have lived before But the things I miss about them don’t exist anymore Repeat chorus
2.
Farewell to the ship Farewell to the crew Clear sailing weather to the lot of you May you pass through the years like a temperate wind I won’t let you out but I won’t ask you in Follow the curve of your spear-shaking letters My only regret is that we didn’t know each other better You wanted their souls But you couldn’t make them cry They didn’t want the word of god Dripping from a dead dog’s eye Preaching from a bandstand Without any moves They revelers danced past you Into places painted blue My only regret as I dip into the horizon Is that the pleasures of the harbor never made me any wiser We took a sacred space And made it unholy Left all the sisters doing the bony maroni They opened their hearts but what the hell came in But a ghost ship filled with sailors stinking of blood and sin My only regret as they tear down the walls Is that we never knew each other at all I cherish each one of you that Ive seen But I don’t expect you to feel the same about me We’ve played all the tables without any luck And traveled the world without missing too much My only regret now that we melt away Is that there will never be another day like yesterday
3.
Capital is spiritual Increases the value of worthless things Must be why love which can never be taxed Never comes with a guarantee The power of land in the land of power The cost of grain against the price of flour When a dollar isn’t worth a dime Money starts growing like a snake on a vine But we keep on dancing until we all fall down Freedom is found in obedience No matter what side you are on you are right While a scurrilous mob outside the law Refuses to be deputized The innocent man on the hanging tree Cannot prove what can never be If there is found in judgment a flaw People might refuse to be ruled by the law And we keep on dancing until we all fall down So put a cop on every corner Shine a light into every room Teach your children to shout for the toreador And they will grow into good soldiers soon Aint no need to believe in nothing When you’re holding all the bombs No hellion or saint can protect you As well as the threat of extinction does We keep on dancing until we all fall down We can’t stay in and we can’t get out So let’s raise the dead, make 'em twist and shout Let’s follow them until we all fall down Twist and shout spin around Carousing at the speed of sound Its silent night in tinsel town When we all fall down So keep on dancing until we all fall down

Nobody Knows 03:57
You’re thinking I’m thinking I’m thinking I’m cute Marching down the street in my sailor suit You’re thinking I’m thinking I’m walking tall With my gun in the air but I’m so sick of it all Nobody knows (x3) How much I hate this uniform And everything it stands for Your’re thinking I’m thinking I’m standing proud With my sanitized brain and my feet on the ground You’re thinking I’m thinking I’m tougher than the rest Crawling through cemetery mud with medals digging into my chest Follow me to the river where the bloodlines flow And I’ll show you where the iron crosses grow Im sitting inside your church in my civilian clothes Where they are talking in the language of the holy ghost Taking no responsibility for what they say Or what they think when they steal a glance to look my way Nobody Knows (x3) How much I loved that uniform When my father wore it to the war The war that nobody knows
5.
On rocks between Sand and sea My love and I arise To scale the wall Where emeralds fall Like snow on frozen eyes Without the sun There is no sight Though some pretend to see Emeralds fall From the hollow dolls And the roads begin to sink The broken sphinx Riddles us deep We are not compelled to answer Its ancient curse is a stolen verse From a rotten necromancer Somewhere in Rome The senate still Hands down its proclamations With words like wax on a monkey’s back There is no conversation I watch the calm In the here and now With my once and future queen From mossy walls Emeralds fall Like stars into the sea
6.
Hey Mr Bigtooth Your gums are looking raw Confess on scabby kneecaps All you did and saw Corruption Without Corruption Within I don’t give a damn about your Petty Little Sins Go ahead and wreck yourself With toys designed for girls Next time you rob an oyster I hope you strangle on her pearls I know you looped your granny Why did you treat her like a whore When she asked for a fifty dollar bill You should have coughed up twenty more Hey Mr. Bigtooth You think you are so bad Pissing in the dust of all the rotten fun you had Corruption Without Corruption Within I don’t give a damn about your Petty Little Sins Evil can be as simple as a dismissive sneer When the waitress asks if you would like another beer But cement shoes, asparagus, an icepick and a carrot Might be the trail that leads the dirty coppers to your garret Hey Mr. Bigtooth You’re blowing up the tracks Cause someone owed you money and refused to pay you back Corruption Without Corruption Within I don’t give a damn about your Petty Little Sins
7.
I could smell the sulphur When you walked into the room And the rest of us around the world Could smell the sulphur too You spoke of a fair market Free trade to help the poor But we don’t take a word you say Seriously any more Chorus: You didn’t come to my funeral I’m the trash in your back yard But your lights cast no reflection on the moon This is the twilight of the dogs Living in Eternity I have no use for history When you look up to look at me Everything goes upside down Here in this eternal shack I see your world is turning black And though your planes are in the air Your soul is under ground Repeat chorus Your people lost their lustre They couldn’t stand up to a fly Life is a soap opera That continues when you die Your police are annointed With the oil of Pork chop Hill Patrolling every neighborhood With a license to kill Repeat chorus The world keeps on turning Although you’ve had your turn We are no longer watching Or caring if you burn You once had my attention Now you’ve faded from my mind You never grew up, you never grew up You are the country left behind Repeat chorus Are you so afraid of me still Although Im dead and gone Cant you find another enemy to project your fears upon You were the land of no borders The home of the free But your freedom is the measure of people you refuse to see Repeat chorus
8.
Broke down engine On a torn-up road The axle slips And the wheel explodes Let the heavy winds carry you Don’t be afraid of the fall (chorus) Everything after this is heaven Gonna find out what its all about at last Everything after this is heaven And heaven is coming on fast Remember the dreams you had When you were a child? Those were the memories Of your days of running wild. Just let go when the lightning hits And the thunder splits the sky Repeat chorus Some say the moon is pressed of silver And the sun is spun of gold But both are cut-outs made of paper And so is the rain and snow Repeat chorus
9.
Even if he doesn’t know What he is talking about Don’t sully his belief With the discord of doubt Each of us holds Pieces of the truth None of us is Close to the Absolute Chorus: Unless we’re talking about love Love is the Absolute Unless we’re talking about love Love is the Absolute Truth We are the ice Melting into water The water Freezing into ice Without love to keep it together Everything breaks like a bad piece of merchandise Put the pieces together You might get some truth None of the pieces alone is the absolute Repeat chorus There is no philosophy, religion, school, or state No body of laws, no predetermined fate Strong enough to lock away your mind Every piece of knowledge is part of a bigger design Spoken: “When Karl Marx said religion was the opium of the people, he wasn’t knocking religion. He was pushing opium, knowing that the poor people couldn’t afford it, he recommended they go to church to get their high. The only thing he had against the church was its claim to be the absolute truth. He didn’t believe an absolute truth was possible, since so many claimed to have it or be it, and each absolute truth cancelled out all the others. His mistake finally was believing the state was the absolute truth. Repeat chorus

about

These songs were written and recorded by Bill White in February 2014 on the beach in Ilo, Peru. Were I smart, I would re record them but fear in doing so the songs would lose their original feeling. So those who can overlook the sometimes weird sounds contained herein, come inside and experience the fear of the world encroaching on the edges of Beach Street.

The companion film, Twilight of the Dogs, is viewable on youtube. m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ui6bHBcoGe0&itct=CA8QpDAYBiITCIuAopK58NYCFZjivgodJxEIwFIUdHdpbGlnaHQgb2YgdGhlIGRvZ3M%3D&hl=en&gl=PE&client=mv-google
