Robber on the Cross

from Legends by Bill White

/

lyrics

im not playing innocent
i broke the law and was caught
my death is not a sacrifice
it is the price of the law
they nailed my body to a tree
a man who had done no wrong was nailed next to me
and i knew that if i followed him
i would not be lost
i wanted to die like him
but i was just a robber on the cross

my wife was in the crowd
she was praying for my soul
my life was going fast
i could hear the death bells toll
she looked at him then she ooked at me
i heard a voice and fell into a dark eternity
and she kept watching as i hung there limp
and i was lost
was i still her own true love
or nothing but a robber on the cross

i kept falling into nothing
when i remembered what he said
its just one more step to paradise
crossing over the land of the dead
i looked at him he looked at me
i felt the waves of life again like electricity
and i knew that every earthly path
led to the land of loneliness and loss
but there is a pathway to paradise\
for every robber who was ever nailed to a cross
