it was pretty cool living on a lake, but i hated my

stepfather and didnt have any friends. but i had a

rowboat and there was an island in the middle of the

lake i would go to and explore. we also had a dock with

both a regular diving board and a high dive. when

school started my mom suggested i throw a party so i

said ok but didnt invite anybody so nobody came.

although i had the lead in the school play and won a

national award for my essay on helen keller, i was not

very popular. once at lunch a girl came over and sat

across from me and said her family had gone to the

drive in and she had wanted to invite me but was too

shy to ask. i didnt know how to respond to that and

she never spoke to me again. one day in gym class

the boys and girls classes were united for a dancing

lesson. there was one girl i looked forward to dancing

with but just as it came our turn, the dance was

interrupted by a news bulletin. at the end of the school

year. having completed 7th grade, we all now felt like

adults, and i attended a party where everyone was

dancing and kissing, and i danced with and kissed all

the girls.
