Polly was in the crowd
The beer was warm on the tables
The music was fast and loud
She held me close till the music stopped
And the walls came tumbling down
The lights had knocked the night aside
And there was nobody else around

The dancers on the dancefloor
Fell like the walls of Jericho
After the dance
I wondered
Where did my partner go

I was standing in line with my sister
The last time I saw Janette
She was selling tickets by the fistful
To some tango-crazed quartet
By the time I got to the window
Where the tickets were being sold
Janette had escaped to the breakroom
Where she was inpregnably enclosed

We had danced with the flowers at the fountain
Where the mountain thyme did grow
After the dance
I wondered
Where did my partner go

Chairs were set up in the ballroom
Where once we came to dance
Today the concerts are seated
