i feel strange in this world
of colorless light
drab people walking
through the unyielding night
i want to be free of the darkness
set me free of this gloom
restore my senses
with your perfume
once you said
"i will wear pink lipstick for you
every time we kiss
i will leave my heartprints on you
and one day i will be gone
you will remember me still
the taste of pink lipstick
my heart on your lips.
you were right i am cold
and the world bores me stiff
with its non-descript people
kissing with colorless lips
and on sad nights like this
i remember your kiss
the taste of pink lipstick
on my cold, lonely lips
once you said
"i will wear pink lipstick for you
every time we kiss
i will leave my heartprints on you
and one day i will be gone
you will remember me still
the taste of pink lipstick
my heart on your lips.

the Hardest Lie
03:21
|
|
||
i cant understand how a man can stand in the street
while his house goes up in flames
i cant understand how a woman can have two faces
and only one name
but when a man lies to his woman
or a woman lies to her man
thats the hardest lie of all to understand
i wake up in the morning listening to lies on my tv
saying 1 and 2 makes 4 and 2 plus 2 equals 3
but when she takes the love you gave to her
and gives it to another man
thats the hardest lie of all to understand
the hardest lie of all to understand
when a man lies to his woman
or a woman lies to her man
but when the spell of your desire
gets tangled in demand
thats the hardest lie of all to understand
seems to be no end to this lying
tell you what im gonna do
for every lie you tell on me
im gonna tell one back on you
you stayed out all last night
you say you were sitting up with a sick friend
i could tell you i haad done the same
but this lying has got to end
the hardest lie of all to understand
when a man lies to his woman
or a woman lies to her man
thats the hardest lie of all to understand

the Guest List
02:24
|
|
||
i left a message at the hotel
a message at the club
left the telephone number
of the place i was calling from
has it really been so long
that you've forgotten i exist
i thought at least you;d leave my name
on the guest list
i heard you were comin home
to play a homecoming show
i was looking forward to seeing you again
maybe we could take a walk
have ourselves a little talk
i really just wanted to ask you how youve been
the best years of my life
were the worst of times for you
then the tablesi left a message at the hotel
a message at the club
left the telephone number
of the place i was calling from
has it really been so long
that you've forgotten i exist
i thought at least you;d leave my name
on the guest list
i heard you were comin home
to play a homecoming show
i was looking forward to seeing you again
maybe we could take a walk
have ourselves a little talk
i really just wanted to ask you how youve been
the best years of my life
were the worst of times for you
then the tables turned and you broke free
i know i did you wrong
but i gave you my best songs
now its you up on that stage instead of meurned and you broke free
i know i did you wrong
but i gave you my best songs
now its you up on that stage instead of me

I've been questioning our love
I know that I'm all in
But lately your eyes glaze over
And I start to wonder when
You lost that special look
Like when our love was new
I want to see that look again
From your loving eyes of blue
Chorus
Do you really mean it?
Or is it something that you say
To pretend everything's fine
When I know it's not okay
Do you really mean it?
must everything come to an end
you no longer want me as a lover
and say you cannot be my friend
Tell me, do you really mean it?
Bridge
Your eyes used to sparkle and shine
When I knew for sure you were mine
I've been unable to sleep
I need to understand
What has changed between us
Was it something that you planned
Or have I become boring
Do you want a change of pace
I want to cry or maybe die
When I don't see it on your face
Repeat chorus

Josie
© 2021 Cindy Prince
Josie left home for California
Couldn't tame her wild soul
She went down to Hollywood
Then up to San Francisco
She partied with hippies
With college kids and deans
She was such a pretty sight
In her bell bottomed jeans
Chorus
Josie fought against the war
Because war is never the answer
She spoke for equal rights
As if she were a pastor
She was fire and ice
And she was love and laughter...love and laughter
She learned to play guitar
Sang for anyone who'd listen
She felt like she had come
On a love and peace mission
Josie played a little too hard
Ended up dying far too young
But she left a lasting mark
And her songs keep being sung
Repeat chorus

low paid jobs, little respect

Someone Followin' Me
03:30
|
|
||
bones can talk
but cannot see
not at all like you or me
our eyes are brightened
by the day
but we have not
a thing to say
that why i look over my shoulder
someones followin me
that why i gotta find the bridge
to cross over the mississippi
i dont want it fried
please just boil it
i can only think
when im on the toilet
with my pants up
and the lid down
and nobn ody
else is around
she listens to music
with the sound off
watches movies
with her eyes closed
she always sneezes
after i m
laughs whenever
my butt crack is exposed
down at the plant they used to call her
hell on wheels
but those wheels fell off
long ago
all thats left is a broken crankshaft
drippin oil
into the remnant of her soul

Never Be Clean
© 2021 Cindy Prince
I kept it hidden
My other life
My past was dark
I'd killed my wife
She'd tried to first
She wanted me dead
But I had finished
My God how she'd bled
I'd changed my name
Moved across states
Still I wonder at night
What'll be my fate
Because she tried
First to kill me
Is it somehow even
Or is it first degree?
Chorus
Clean, I can never be clean
Every night I still see the scene
Using that knife to end her life
It's a nightmare dream after dream
Sometimes at night
I dream that whole day
I question myself
Why didn't I walk away
But she was a danger
Was no longer sane
I remember washing
Blood off in the rain
Repeat chorus
I try hard to forget
But know that won't happen
It is my fate
And I am the captain
I try to do good now
Don't hate anyone
But I have no peace
It's never over and done
Repeat chorus

She wears his big skull ring
On a chain around her neck
She reads up on sacrifices
Because he worshiped like the Aztecs
Chorus
And though he's gone
He's still very near
Because not everything
Is as it appears
She prays to many gods
Then slices with a knife
She's living in
Another life
She has all of his things
They sit in honor in her home
She speaks nightly to his skull
Then writes it down in a poem
Anyone who tries to visit
Comes away with a darker soul
They speak of things never seen
About losing all control

we both grew to despise
the girl you fell in love with
and when i changed my ways
you accused me of being in denial
you never believed in a thing
i called redemption
so i had get out of your car
and walk by myself for awhile
you would rather be getting tight
with your friends in the bars at night
than come to me on the other side of the fire
new ways are always strange
but its time to make a change
im waiting on the other side of the fire
ive been drunk and ive been lazy
ive been stoned and ive been crazy
but i swear i am not that girl any more
ive been straight as a board
since i took jesus as my lord
and he's the one now knocking on your door
you would rather be getting tight
with your friends in the bars at night
than come to me on the other side of the fire
new ways are always strange
but its time to make a change
im waiting on the other side of the fire
i ride horses in the day
take my boat across the lake
i got no time to waste on sin
take those bags of stolen cash
throw them in the trash
jesus is knocking on your heart
hurry up and let him in
no more time for getting tight
with your friends in the bars at night
come to the other side of the fire
new ways are always strange
but its time to make a change
im waiting on the other side of the fire

Something Bigger
03:54

this barrio once was an orchard
now there is a street named for every disease
some say it started when a flying fish
vaporized in a hurricane breeze
manhattan island became manhattan harbor
when the mayor pulled the sword out of the sky
and bruce springsteen grew thin as an arrow
another victim of a bigger lie
hillarys deplorables
and bernies dream deferred
has the rider on a pale horse
come to thin the stricken herd
is the situation cut and dried
conclusions all foredrawn
or is something bigger going on
you have to chime in with the choir
even if you dont know the song
you have to trust the scientists
although they are often wrong
but fox news and cnn
distort the who, when, where, and why
flip a coin and take your pick
as the horseman passes by
there is no place in the cowards new world
for discourse or debate
the victor is the one who runs
a campaign of pure hate
first russia, now the usa
history is revised
by those who put a gag on truth
and pledge allegiance to a bigger lie

in this tangled mess of streets
i cant find any lonesome road
not a single stretch
where a solitary man can be alone
when i stop to catch my breath
somebody always comes along
askin me if im okay
or is some?thing going wrong
honey ill meet you in a place
only god knows
somewhere way up yonder
where the rainbow river blows
i saw two lovers on a bench
an amiable pod of peas
not like us, two mice who fight
over a mousetrap full of cheese
but all the fights gone out of me
though it rages hard in you
i wish we could share a bench
the way young lovers do
the last time we shared wet kisses
was at the funeral of a friend
the preacher there was preachin
that death is not the end
now im not one to guess
if that is false or true
the only thing im sure of
is that it will take me away from you
