Woman on the Pier

one thing that haunts me is the visage of my future wife when, at the age of 26, she waited for me on the pier after my ten day voayge at sea to be with her. that first time we saw each other after 6 years of virtual courtship was an unforgettable moment. she was full of hope, optimisim, romance, and love. after 12 years of marriage, that 26 year old girl had matured into a 38 year old woman. She was no longer that girl on the pier, and i wonder what had happened to her. my failings as a husband, her disappointments with me? or maybe just the basic facts of growth and evolution. we can never get that young person we used to be back.. but we are still the same person. and must always see each other as such.
