why must i call it fiction
when all of it is true?
why call her cleopatra
if im singing about you?

if a tale has a moral
they call it a fable
while heaps of self-centered ego sludge
are marked with the fine art label

if this aint the truth
pouring out of my soul
there is no place called hollywood
and no such thing as rock and roll

my stories are not fiction
its the soap operas that lie
and world leaders on the tv stage
whose tongues ought to be tied

all sane men know the world is round
but its history is flat
there are no globes in the war room
take a close look at their maps

why must i recant my story
before i set down its first line?
neither fable nor is it fiction
it is the poetry of time
