america is a land of play acting,
People cast tthemselves in whatever role appeals to them, whether or not it suits them and whether or not thry are qualified. cheat your way through medical school and you can play doctor with trusting bodies. sleep with the right people and you might get into the movies. even a small part will make you a movie star in the eyes of your small town friends and strangers. america is a country where every person has a chance at becoming president. and it is many an unqualified everyman who has held the office. it is a particularly easy accompishnent if you are patient and agree to be a stooge for the billionaires who have backed you. or maybe you are a criminal in stir for threatening a pregnant woman with a knife while committina a home invasion. you could become a saint or a martyr if you die at the hands of a maniac cop.
lyrics
he put a knife to a pregnant womans belly
served five years in the federal pen
when he got out on parole some nutbag killed him
people said, theyre doing it again
now he s a martyr he is a saint
in america you is what you aint
that killer should be sent to the death house
fry his ass like a chicken steak
in america you is what you aint
in the cornfield, the teachers have arrived
with their brains severely revised
take your books outside and burn em
before they fill your mind with germs
and on monday your new books will arrive
they say an indian is just a white man in red paint
in america you is what you aint
dont speak in my name mr big shot
youre just a wimp washed up on the beach
the president of state with sand kicked up in your face
in america you is what you aint
