a dying soldier regressing to moments of his youth. while strolling among the futuristic exhibits at the 1962 worlds fair, he imagines what the next century will be like, when visions of a more distopian future arise in his fevered imagination

i feel the boots of the 20th century
pressing on my neck
tanks are rolling across my back
get up
all hands on deck

saigon whores and jungle rot
the flesh is cold but the blood is hot
my legs are numb
but i have to run
all the way into century 21

space needles and a bubble ate her
a monorail to the moon
we will be living like the jetsons
in candy-colored rooms
our fingers have been walking
through the yelllow pages like wishbones
in the future shopping will be done
with a typewriter and a telephone
babies wont need a mother
fathers wont need a son
we will all be tied
to an eye in the sky
in century 21

no more animosity between the arabs and the jews
since we signed the shanghai treaty
that resolved conflicting views
although its true the round earth goes
around the sunstar every year
its also true the earth is flat
and never moves an inch
the stars are pinned to the top of the sky
illuminated by the sun
i am following the future science
of century 21

the earthquakes and the hurricanes
and melting polar caps
will cease and earth be stablized
when we install the new sun app
we will have no need for dictators, presidents, or kings
the infallibility of man will deternine everything
things as delicate as glass
shall be strong as steel
what has been inconceiveable
in the future shall be real
we will sail across the ocean on a floating train
1000 miles an hour faster than the speed of rain
sign the paper, say the word
your will shall be done
follow me on the insect trail
to century 21

sometimes you have to give up
sometimes you have to give in
people are gonna do what they wanna do
you can stop it before they begin

the way they relate
is relatively chaste
as if touch
can be relative to tase

and after all their infidelities
immutible mutibilities
at last they stand head to head
death-in-life with the living dead
together beneath a revolving sun
more than 20 years
into Century 21

we have to do away with love
before we conquer hate
freedom from emotion
is the key to heavens gate
pillow bots take the place of porn
we fly to jupiter and are reborn
there will be no hunger
we will only eat for fun
in our self-sustaining skin
