are you a bird or are you a dog
high in the clouds or low in the fog

they were designed to move like ballerinas
but then they hit the bricks
now they bump and grind and tantalize
the men with monkey tricks

the mermaid will die
if she comes out of the sea
if she remains in the water
she will always be free
to live as she is
always to be
the daughter of neptune
princess of the sea

you dont have to believe
but if you come inside
at least light a candle

im not asking for 100,000 prostrations
just that you take a closer look at the situation
because t you are stuck at the junction
between emptiness and function
dog, and the Mermaid
im reading books i dont understand
its the only way i have of finding out things that i dont know
