Come gather round me all you non-believers Listen to the story that I tell About a gambler who threw a seven Won himself a ticket to heaven but the route was marked With a stopover in hell Chorus: Even if your sins have been forgiven It aint as easy as some folks will tell If you hold a ticket to heaven Be sure there aint no stopover in hell "How long? Will it be an over-nighter? Will I have time to spin the roulette wheel?" "Hell, yeah," answered the porter There will be time for that and more You'll go through a million decks of cards Before you get the deal." "First thing I'm gonna do when we hit the station Is find myself a woman who will treat me well. I'll check the the graveyard row by row Until I find marilyn monroe I'll pass the time with her On my stopover in hell." At this the porter laughed and said,"Im sorry But you're checked into the celibate hotel You can gamble day and night But there won't be a woman in sight That's the way it goes On this stopover in hell." "Well if indeed there will be no women Will there at least be whiskey on the rocks?" "No, not even water for your thirst And it will get so hot that your belly will burst And your liver will be A feast for the sparrows and hawks." Their conversation might have gone on forever Or for as much of forever that from heaven fell But you've heard enough of the story to know there is a purgatory Though some call it A stopover in hell.

about

The K-Mart Tapes is a collection of recordings that never fit in anywhere. Like remainders, they just laid around unheard, yet there was something about each of the tracks that made them worth keeping. This is the frst official collection of the tapes, which span over 40 years, There will certainly be a second and possibly a third volume, as the wealth of rejected material is overwhelming. the onlyy drawback, excepting the sometimes embarrassment at having written some of these songs, is the sometimes inferior recording quality, as most were recorded on crummy portable cassette players of ancient times. But most of the recordings on this volume have been cleaned up so as not to challenge the endurance of the ear.
