First the Wind
03:26
|
|||
Shaved legs
Waxed moustaches
Liniments and lotions
Looking at Earth from Sirius
all you see are the oceans
But down here on the beach
Everything is out of reach
First the wind,,,,
and then the rain comes in
When the sandline hits the sunset
Everything turns white
Stray dogs outside my window
Warning me that tonight...
First the wind,,,,
and then the rain comes in
Tan lines
Bikini bottoms
So much distraction on the beach
Looking at the Earth from Sirius
All you see is out of reach
First the wind,,,,
and then the rain comes in
First the wind,,,,
and then the rain comes in
Was it the sun that just exploded
Or just another bomb
Stray dogs outside my window
They say Relax, just stay calm
First the wind,,,,
and then the rain comes in
First the wind,,,,
and then the rain comes in
Shaved legs
Waxed moustaches
Liniments and lotions
Looking at Earth from Sirius
all you see are the oceans
But down here on the beach
Everything is out of reach
First the wind,,,,
and then the rain comes in
First the wind,,,,
and then the rain comes in

Trouble in the Street
03:23
|
|||
theres trouble in the streets
where theres never been trouble in the streets before
somebody fell asleep
where nobody sleeps anymore
and i guess you never knew
how much like me and you
thise famous lovers were
theres trouble in the streets tonight
people are falling asleep
thats for sure
sombodys throwing rocks
in a place where everybody whould keep still
theres going to be a fight tonight
a lot of stupid people are gonna get killed
and i know you dont believe me
but i just went into that bar
to get some cigarettes
theres going to be a fight tonight
the man in the burgandy suit is taking bets
theres locks on the gates
where theres never been locks on the gate
that i remember
but they say heaven is falling
the stores are closing early
people want to be together
i know you dont remember
when the band refused to play
but we kept on dancing
tonight i feel the ghost of romeo
waiting in this west side alley
for something good to happen

we recorded a hit record in 1981
if you listen to it now, it sounds like we were having fun
though we were young and alive
inside we cried
because we made that recording on the night john lennon died
through the afternoon the band was listening to bruce
he had a double Cd out, everybody was feeling loose
i said put that record down
weve got to lay down some original sounds
and we cant do it with hungry heart ringing in our ears
so we went doenstairs laid down some basic tracks
when the telephone rang, douglas got it and came running back
he cried john lennons been shot
i really think we out to put our instrument down
i cant make any more music tonight
and i spoke up saying er got too finish the song
to stop now would be wrong
we finished the song and sadly went our seperate ways
it was the last time we all were together...the last time we played
but in march of 1982 up the charts our record flew
we recorded a hit single on the night john lennon died

No Vindication
03:19
|
|||
The idea for this song began with PF Sloan
He wrote a couple dozen hits but died unknown
He knew everybody from the bottom to the top
He seen then rise and he watched them drop
and one thing all of them had in common
From the drug addicted sex fiend to the holy brahmin
was that the show business pigs who made their money off of them
Gave them no vindication
Didnt matter if their last record was a flop or a hit
No vindication
Treat em all equally like pieces of shit
I was talking to Bob Dylan on the telephone
He said ive got every medal in the world hanging on the walls of my home
But when Im out among the wolves in the Hollywood hills
I get no vindication
They tell me that i mangle all the songs that I sing
And my voice is like the croak of a frog in the spring
They probably say the same about tom waits and lou reed
We get no vindication
Doesnt matter if you sing for your supper in the street
Or sell out a stadium with a hundred thousand seats
When the show is over
Youre just another piece of meat
No vindication
No vindication
no body gets treated the way they should
No vindication
We go through life wondering whether or not we are any good
they kept the fan ail away from marilyn monroe
how much the people loved her she never did know
that she was the real star of the show
she got no vindication
no vindication
gotta keep them in line
keep them in the dark
and every thing will be fine
if they find out how good they are
next thing you know theyre crossing the line
so give them no vindication
Gave them no vindication
Didnt matter if their last record was a flop or a hit
No vindication
Treat em all equally like pieces of shit

The Suffering Earth
04:05
|
|||
We used to have the guts
To steal the payroll of a train
Now we slink on home in silence
To fill up our veins
With dirt
Until we're just another piece of the suffering earth
Things beyond imagination
You get used to pretty fast
What was sold as forever
Never had the time to last
Now it's gonna hurt
but it's just a wrinkle in the ripple of the suffering earth
Courtrooms filled with caskets
where the dead are put on trial
Rivers thick with sinful blood
Open with a smile
But they swallow you first
Then spit you back into the suffering earth
It's the power of the nightmare
The glory of the year
That educates with ignorance
And manipulates with fear
As we die of thirst
Crawling across the suffering earth
I never went to see my mother
Until the day before she died
Then my sister was gone too
It was a long and tearful ride
And I was left in the lurch
As the rest of my family fell into the suffering earth
I am lying on a guerney
Pushed from room to room
The nurses think that I amdead
The doctor knows I'll be dead soon
But the truth is worse
I was just a piece of the suffering eath
Do you ever get the feeling
Nothing is as it seems
That your life had ended long ago
Now you're walking in a dream
Waiting for the birth
Of a brand new you in the same old suffering earth

your telephone is talking to you
your television set is watching you
your computer is recording
everything you think & say and do
better get wise open your eyes
to the roadblocks and the dragnets
and watch out for the magnets
we are born
to take our place on the grid
so the creator will know
when we slide and where we slid
we broadcast just like tv stations
and when we die we expact
aa standing ovation
The night has a thousand eyes
But big brothers got a million
And if you speak in Portuguese
they might think you are Brazilian
if your favorite color is red
it might be smart to dress in blue
or when they burn the white house down they might put the blame on you
your telephone is talking to you
your television set is watching you
your computer is recording
everything you think & say and do
better get wise open your eyes
to the roadblocks and the dragnets
and watch out for the magnets
if you think im paranoid
look under the Christmas tree
ask yourself whats keeping you
from your destiny
watch your ps and qs
always pay your union dues
learn the meaning of the alphabet
and watch out for the magnets

Red Trigger Moon
02:58
|
|||
In the glowing
Of a red trigger moon
She is lying
In the shadow
Of a red trigger moon
She is dying
and they say
someday soon
She will be buried beneath the red trigger moon
In the shadows
Of a red trigger moon
She has been sinning
There is lightning
In that red trigger moon
When the wood is full of killing
and they say
someday soon
She will be buried beneath the red trigger moon
She came out of the swamp
Stripped like a snake
Even if she were dead
Id marry her again

everythng i ever owned
came in on a freight train
everyone i ever knoed
was there to pick it up
on my way to meet them
i passed by a record store
every record was on sale
but I already had them all
nohing is lost
it all comes back to you
for better or worse
the false and the true
watch your step
be careful what you do
spit in the wind
and the wind spits back at you
they took me to a palace
said this is your new home
i said its way too big for me
they said you wont be living here alone
besides size has no measure
space takes up no space
there are no locks on these doors
no keyes for these gates
the death of a lover
evidence of a crime
nothing is lost
theres nowhere to hide
watch your step
be careful what you do
spit in the wind
and the wind spits back at you
every book i bought and did not read
every record i collected and did not listen to
every frind i had but did not get to know
every place ive been
every place i ever wanted to go
everythng i ever owned
came in on a freight train
everyone i ever knoed
was there to pick it up
on my way to meet them
i passed by a record store
every record was on sale
but I already had them all
the death of a lover
evidence of a crime

It feels like my body was dropped\Into a vat of acid
I feel myself dissolving away
But it is a fact that my mid is still intact
And its floating up and out of the milky way
Did something tap my knee with a hammer?
Or was that just a memory of reflex?
Have I fallen like a cricket into the slammer?
Or am I off for a bit of heavenly rest?
The stars seem to be sneezing all around me
And I have a dreadful case of deja vu
Ive been through six trillion incarnations
And every time I have come back to you
But.....
What if Im at the bottom of the ocean
My claws dragging heavy through the sand
and you are dancing gently through the heavens?
What if I never find you again?

So many people that I know
Are living in the past
We travel through a passing dram
Its not supposed to last
The world changes completely
With every century
So why dont you all just calm down
Step back and let it be
chorus
The days are short but life goes on
If you think Ive got it wrong
Take a look at the evening sky
blame the singer, not the song
We grew up in a racist world
And struggle with it yet
Not one of us is innocent
We are all caught in its net
Blinded by our cowardice
somehow our kids are brave
Like the children of the promised land
Who never knew they once were slaves
Repeat chorus
We made a little progress
But in the end we failed
And left the road not taken
to walk the paper trail
Everything we know and love
Passes into history
So let the children rise and thrive
Step back and let it be
Repeat chorus
