Marthie and Bill White - Flowers. Lakes. and Trees

lyrics

Lakes and flowers, flowers and trees ...
he never hit me
but his words stung my heart
he was never at a loss
to find something to tear apart
the soup it was too salty
the windows showed some dust
there was a wrinkle in his white shirt
which had not been starched enough

i wonder if he realized i loved him
as i loved the flowers, lakes and trees
but the flowers, lakes and trees
were never mean to me
would he have been so mean to me
if he knew how much i loved him

he was frustrated
and he took it out on me
he didnt mean the things he said
but he gave no apologies
all he said in his defense
was riddled with cliches
the world had dealt him a raw hand
he never got the breaks

i wonder if he realized i loved him
as i loved the flowers, lakes and trees
but the flowers, lakes and trees
were never mean to me
would he have been so mean to me
if he knew how much i loved him

my friends told me,
"dont waste yourself
on that useless lout"
"you havent seen his better side"
i answered, but not aloud
for what i saw in him perhaps
no one else was meant to see
and if he knew how much i loved him
he may also have loved me

i wonder if he realized i loved him
as i loved the flowers, lakes and trees
but the flowers, lakes and trees
were never mean to me
would he have been so mean to me
if he knew how much i loved him
