he never hit me
but his words stung my heart
he was never at a loss
to find something to tear apart
the soup it was too salty
the windows showed some dust
there was a wrinkle in his white shirt
which had not been starched enough

i wonder if he realized i loved him

would he have been so mean to me

he was frustrated
and he took it out on me
he didnt mean the things he said
but he gave no apologies
all he said in his defense
was riddled with cliches

on that useless lout"
"you havent seen his better side"

for what i saw in him perhaps
no one else was meant to see

he may also have loved me
